Nothing says relaxation like being woken at 5:00 AM in a hotel bed clearly designed by someone inspired by medieval torture devices. My six-year-old son is somehow both exhausted and wildly energetic as he gleefully screams that the all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet includes ice cream.
Good morning, Ibiza!
I try to locate my kneecaps, which were dislodged during yesterday’s flight, where sitting only became possible after folding myself into a human pretzel. Only one option: check what time the bar opens. God knows I’m in dire need of a drink.
But here’s the thing—this isn’t a post to complain. On the contrary, it’s a thank-you note.
To the Transavia Airlines captain, who took the time to inspire my kids, turning their excitement into awe and making a regular flight unforgettable.
To the waiter who noticed the adults-only terrace was empty, moved the sign three feet, and let us enjoy a family dinner with a sunset we’ll never forget.
To the waitress who saw me sitting there, ice cream wrapper in hand, scanning hopelessly for a trash can – and simply took it from me with a smile
And most importantly, to all the managers out there who create a safe environment where people feel empowered to do just that.
Because after working in many high – and sometimes not-so-high -performing departments, I immediately recognize when I’ve entered a special kind of organization.
It’s where the accelerators live.
Where people go the extra mile—with a smile.
Where people care for each other, share crazy ideas without fear, and become the best version of themselves.
And if—right now—you’re not feeling like you’re in such a place, ask yourself: Do I make others—my kids, my partner, my colleagues—feel safe enough to live and work that way?
So today, start building that environment.
Start following your gut instead of cultural boundaries.
Break the unwritten rules.
And yes, your boss.
Yes, your colleagues.
But mostly you.
And the return on your investment?
Well, just look into the eyes of my son.
Magic happens!
